Hedgehog Awareness Week 2015
This week is national Hedgehog Awareness Week. And we in Garvald have even more reason to be Hedgehog aware as we are lucky enough to have a number of these prickly personages resident in the village.
This year efforts are focussed on gardeners. There is so much that gardeners can do to help the hedgehog, very simple things like:
Ensuring there is access into the garden (all that is needed is 5” square gap).
Checking areas before strimming or mowing.
Moving piles of rubbish to a new site before burning it.
Ensuring netting is kept at a safe height.
Checking compost heaps before digging the fork in.
Stopping or reducing the amount of pesticides and poisons used.
Covering drains or deep holes.
Ensuring there is an easy route out of ponds and pools. If you are lucky enough to see a hedgehog in the village at night time, why not post a comment and let us know? A note of caution should you see one out and about in the daytime though. It is very possibly unwell and in need of help. For more informtion, see the British Hedgehog Preservation Society Website.

Nobody can resist a tombola …
The Garvald Kirk’s stall at yesterday’s Spring Sale raised over £150 – wow!
A big thanks to everyone who donated tombola prizes. And an even bigger one to those who paid up to take a lucky dip!
There’ll be no re-selling those spoils on e-Bay now … <wags finger> … that’s just not in the spirit of the event!

A little bit of everything. And a lot of you. Thanks!
Thank you to all those who supported yesterday’s Spring Sale in the Hall. It was great to see such a wide variety of stalls, and them all so busy with eager shoppers. Special mention to the glitter tattoo artists and face painters, who were in demand from young and old alike. Here’s hoping the sparkle did wash off, or a few people (no names) might just be going to school/work with hot lips on their cheeks this morning …
The next “big event” is the Jumble Sale, on 28th June. Bob the date in your diaries, if it isn’t there already, and keep an eye on here for more information!

Spring Sale tomorrow, Sunday 26th, from 12pm …
So that’ll be why the BBC weather AP is forecasting snow …?!
Come along to browse the stalls, and treat yourself to some tasty home cooked lunch!
Set up is tonight, from 4pm. Help always appreciated, especially from those who can lift heavy tables with ease!
See you there!

Spring Show Set-up …
In case you’ve been too engrossed in the election to notice, it is the Garvald Spring Table-top Sale this Sunday from 12pm till 2.30pm …
Set up will take place on Saturday between 4pm and 6pm. Could we ask for some fit and strong help with shifting the trestle tables first thing? Many thanks in advance …
Stall holders are more than welcome to come on the Saturday, or on the Sunday when the Hall will be open from 11am. Donations of plants, tombola prizes etc will also be accepted both days …
Any questions, see Hazel, Caroline, Katy or Vicky. Otherwise, see you there!

Who can resist a tombola?!
Nobody, we hope as there will be one at the Garvald Spring Table-top Sale in aid of the Garvald Kirk, and its much needed roof renovation …
Can anyone look out a wee prize or two? An unopened bottle of perfume. A pre bikini diet box of chocolates. A duplicate DVD. You know the sort of thing, not necessarily a big ticket item but something somebody would like to win …
Caroline MacGregor is doing the collection and collation. Either drop your donations in at The Old Schoolhouse, or bring them to the Hall on Saturday 25th between 4-6pm. Thanks in advance.
