Neighbourhood Watch Update
Good Afternoon,
A few Neighbourhood Watch things have been happening in the background which I would like to share with you all.
Neighbourhood Watch signs for the village have been ordered and will be fitted in due course by East Lothian Council. There will be 7 signs erected on lampposts around various parts of the village to gain maximum exposure to our scheme.
Additional signs will be placed up at Castle Moffat, the entrance to Nunraw Barns, Garvald Grange and Tanderlane Cottages. I would hope that all the signs are up before the end of this month.
There is a cost to purchase the signs and have them fixed in the various locations, the cost is £215.40 which will be paid for through Garvald & Morham Community Council’s Local Priority Fund.
I also have small Neighbourhood Watch window stickers which I will put (1) through all current members letter box in the next week.
Finally can you keep Thursday 9th Jan free when we will hold a short meeting in the Village Hall when PC Lynn Black will explain our roll in Garvald Neighbourhood Watch and any other related matters. The proposed time is 7.15 for a 7.30pm start, hopefully we can show a good turn out. I will remind every one nearer the time and have it placed on our Web site as well.

If you feel threatened, unsafe, or suspicious of a caller, contact the Police immediately on 999
If you see something suspicious in Garvald or want more advice about doorstep crime, contact the Police on 101

O Come All Ye Faithful …
Amidst all the last minute peeling, packing and prep, don’t forget that there will be a formal carol service at 6pm on Christmas Eve in Garvald Church … The collection will go towards the Red Cross Syrian appeal.
If weather permits, there will be further carolling afterwards – head for the village xmas tree on the green opposite the pub … And if you’re all done, but too excited to sleep, there is always the Watchnight Service at 11.30pm in Morham Church. Remember to wrap up warm, and drive safely there and back!

Reminder: Children’s Christmas Party tomorrow, Friday 20th December …
Don’t forget that it is the annual Garvald and Morham Children’s Party in the Hall tomorrow night, 5pm till 7pm. A magician will be on hand to entertain the youngsters, and there will be a simple supper. It would be great if every family could bring along a plate of party food to share. If you’re new to the area, and have any other questions, then please contact Lorraine Hay. Otherwise, see you in your best party clothes tomorrow!

Christmas Tree
The Christmas Tree on the village green is now standing up and decorated with lights. Thank you to the Donaldson family for providing the tree, and to the squad led by Dave Ramsey and Peter McQuade for putting it up. Have a Merry Christmas!

Calling all Thespians
Just to let you know that the Stenton Footlights are holding auditions for their 2014 production this Thursday, 19th December in Stenton Village Hall at 7pm. The play will be ‘Season’s Greetings’ by Alan Ayckbourn. The production will take place during the last week of March. For more details contact Rufus.

Children’s Christmas Party – Friday 20th December
Just to let you know that the Garvald and Morham Children’s Christmas Party will be at Garvald Village Hall on Friday 20th December from 5pm till 7pm. Alexander the Great will be providing some magical entertainment. Please could each family bring a plate of food. Same set-up as usual…any queries, contact Lorraine (830346).

Garvald Poetry Competition 2013 – Results
The Garvald Poetry Competition was organised to celebrate National Poetry Day, 3rd October 2013. After reading and re-reading over a hundred entries, judge Liz Lochhead has chosen her winners. Her comments are published along with the winning entries on the Poetry Competition 2013 page. In addition we have published a booklet online containing all entries for you to read and enjoy (downloadable in PDF format).
We would like to express our thanks to Liz for being our judge; with so many entries it was a tremendous undertaking. We would also like to thank Garvald and Morham Community Council for providing funds for the book token prizes and Georgi Gill, Learning Manager at the Scottish Poetry Library in Edinburgh, for her support and for donating some lovely poetry books as prizes, on behalf of the Scottish Poetry Library.
