  • Save the date(s!)

Here’s an excuse to crack out those shiny new diaries, with (very) advance notice of some popular village events …

    • Plant Sale – Sunday 19th May
    • Jumble Sale  – Sunday 16th June
    • Horticultural Show – Saturday 31st August
    • Christmas Fair – Sunday 1st December

Needless to say, let us know if you’d like to help organise any of the above. Or if you have any bright new ideas for a community get-together cum fundraiser. Many thanks in advance.

  • January 100 Club Draw …

    Congratulations to …

    • 21, Phillip White; and
    • 28, Findlay Hay

… cheques are winging their way!

  • Get Fit in 2013 …

Zumba class starts in the Hall again this Monday, 7th January at 7pm. Each session costs  £5 for adults and £4 for youngsters, and lasts just over an hour …

If you fancy something “lower impact,” pilates kicks off the following week – i.e. Tuesday 15th. There are two sessions, the first at 6.30pm and the second at 7.30pm. Each class costs £8, or a course of 10 for £65 …

  • Monday Night Merriment …

A reminder that this Monday is Hogmanay, and there is much fun to be had in the Village Hall. Ceilidh the year away to Amy Geddes and her Herring Heids, with supper and a few drinks. All ages welcome, and encouraged. Tickets are available from Shirley at Burnbrae. Why not pop in, or call her on 830270.

  • Christmas Tree Thanks

The Christmas Tree on the Green is standing up well to the recent gales and making a great contribution to our festivities.

Thanks are due to the Donaldson Family for donating the tree…a generous arrangement which has lasted between the village and the farmer at Tanderlane for many years.

The new lights were purchased by the Community Council from the Local Priorities Fund, and a group of neighbours in the village provided the man (and woman) power to get the tree erected and lit.

    Have a Merry Christmas!

  • Christmas Eve Services

Here’s a reminder of the Garvald and Morham Church service times on Christmas Eve. All are welcome to come along to Garvald Church at 6 pm, followed by soup and carols around the village Christmas tree, or to the service at Morham Church at 11.30pm.

  • Need to let off some steam this Christmas week?

Well remember that the Hall has a full size tennis table for hire! Why not challenge the (grand) children? Have a family Olympics, in fact?! Run around, safe in the knowledge you wont have to splash through surface water and into a gale force headwind … For more info, click here. And ping-pong away!

  • Village Hall Notice Board …

Unfortunately the Notice Board outside the Village Hall has been damaged beyond repair in the recent gales. This was a very useful asset to the village, not only for Hall business, but being opposite the play park, it kept visitors to the Village informed of what is happening in the area.

There is a long tradition in the village of local craftsmen making notice boards, e.g. the late Mr Kelly made the board which has just been damaged whilst Mr Marwick renovated it, and Mr Cunningham, who farmed at Tanderlane, made the one at the Church gate.

If there is someone with the talent to make something to replace what we have just lost, the Hall Committee would be delighted to hear from them with a view to discussing the cost of materials etc.  Please contact Hazel Clark if you have any ideas, or know where a second hand weatherproof notice board might be sourced. Many thanks in advance.

  • Season’s Greetings to You All

Season’s Greetings! The Garvald website is now pretty well established, having been up and running since last February. We hope you have found the website, its news blog and our Email Updates service useful. We’d like to thank you for your support and feedback over the past few months and wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

From Heidi, Katy and the rest of the Garvald Web Team.

  • Adaptation of Ian Rankin’s ‘Doors Open’ to be shown on STV on Boxing Day.

The adaptation of Ian Rankin’s novel ‘Doors Open, starring Stephen Fry and Douglas Henshall, is to be broadcast on STV on Boxing Day at 9pm. See if you can spot Garvald’s brief appearance in one or two of the scenes… If you remember, some of the filming was done in and around the Garvald Inn on a rainy day last May.
