We are in North Berwick for our weekly Friday lunchtime debate 30th October and we are looking for a lively audience to come along and join our live debate on the topical issues of the week. All are welcome. If you would like to come along, please access the online application form http://bbc.in/1Al9Rpx, email bigdebate@bbc.co.uk or phone 0141 422 7773.

WHERE: St Andrew Blackadder Church, St Andrew St, North Berwick,

    WHEN: Friday 30thOctober, 2015

TIMES: Doors open at the venue at 11:15am the show is on air from 12pm – 1pm

Former Newsnight presenter Gordon Brewer is the host of The Big Debate.

Every Friday the programme visits a different part of Scotland to discuss the big issues of the week. Gordon will be joined by a panel of speakers from the world of Politics, Arts, Science, Business and other areas of public life. But we want you – the audience – to pose the questions.

We look for questions on the most stimulating moral, political and social issues of the day – the current issues that will get people talking. So the programme gives YOU the opportunity to challenge politicians, policy makers, writers and thinkers.

Questions should be brief and to the point if possible and should be on something that’s been reported in the news. As the programme broadcasts to a Scotland-wide audience, we look for issues that raise matters of genuine national and international interest, and remember to keep an eye on the newspapers. Once you know what you want to ask, email your question to us at bigdebate@bbc.co.uk by 5.00pm, Thursday 29th October.  Please be aware we are not able to guarantee that all questions will be used.

  • Garvald Village Hall Trust AGM …

A wee reminder that it is the Hall AGM a week on Wednesday – 21st October at 7.30pm.

By now, you should have all received an open letter from the current, and retiring, Hall Chairman Barrie Ash. In it, he emphasises the real need for villagers to attend this meeting – to have their say in the ongoing running of their Hall. Moreover, he highlights the need for new blood on the management committee – especially as this year is an election year. According to the Constitution, the management committee must choose a Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary. Even if the incumbents wish to stand again and are unopposed, at least ten villagers should to be there to vote. In 2014, only seven turned up …

So please, dairy the time and the date. An hour of your time next week, could help set up the Hall for another two years. That’s two more Halloween parties, 100 more post offices and over a 1000 games of table tennis at the very least!

    Your Hall needs you!

  • He’s behind you … Oh no he’s not!

An update on the pantomime trip … It’s going to be on 23rd December, and the ticket cost plus bus fare comes in at an amazing £5 per head. A round of applause to the Windfarm for subsidising such a great initiative … If you would like to go, please let Penny Short know by this Monday morning. Drop her a line using the contact form on this post. Cheers!

  • Garvald and Morham Pantomime Trip

Some local residents are trying to co-ordinate a trip to Edinburgh to see a show over the Christmas period and are hoping to apply to the Windfarm Fund to subsidise costs – so they need to find out how many people would want to come.

There are two shows on at the same time in neighbouring theatres, the Traverse and the Lyceum. ‘White‘ is on at the Traverse (suitable for 2-5 year olds) and ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe‘ is on at the Lyceum (suitable for 5+). The intention would be to run a bus and families could go to either show on the 12th, 23rd OR 24th December at 2.00pm.

    White

“Welcome to the beautifully strange world of White. Full of birdsong and birdhouses, it gleams and dazzles and shines in the night. Two friends look after the birdhouses and make sure the eggs stay safe. The world is bright, ordered and white. But high up in the trees, all is not white. Colour appears. First red… then yellow… then blue…”. White is a playful show for very young children and is a perfect first-time theatre experience. Catherine Wheels is an award-winning and internationally acclaimed children’s theatre company.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

“It’s a magic wardrobe. There’s a wood inside it, and it’s snowing, and there’s a faun and a witch and it’s called Narnia. Come and see.” This Christmas, The Lyceum is delighted to present C.S. Lewis’ classic tale The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Step with us through a dusty wardrobe and into a snowy landscape filled with thrilling adventure. Meet the majestic Aslan, the loveable Mr Tumnus and his fantastical friends and join their quest to free Narnia from the spell of the White Witch. A festive treat of music and song from the team that brought you The Lyceum’s magical festive shows The BFG and A Christmas Carol. Suitable for all ages.

    Ticket Prices

Tickets for White are £8 for children and £10 for adults, and for The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe tickets are £13 for kids and £25 for adults. White is a much shorter show, so families would need to bear in mind that there would be some waiting about afterwards. All children would need to be accompanied by adults.

    What we need from you…

It’s difficult to say at this point how much we may be able to reduce the prices of the tickets and bus hire using the Windfarm Fund but I would be very grateful if you could get back to me within the next couple of days if you would be interested in coming along and, if so, let me know what date would suit best and which show you would prefer.

Unfortunately, due to the strict criteria of the Windfarm Fund, we could only extend this invitation to families from Garvald and Morham – although you don’t need to have children to come along!  Please contact Penny Short as soon as you can, using the contact form:
