  • Garvald Fun Day

We’re looking at holding a Fun Day in Garvald Park on Saturday 12 August from 1.00pm to 4.00pm. What we need to know is:

    1. Are you keen for this to happen?
    2. Would anyone like to help (manning stalls, organise events etc)?
    3. We’re meeting up at the pub at 3.30pm on Sunday 30 April to have a quick chat & plan out what we would want the Fun Day to look like – would you like to be involved in the planning?

Feedback would be great – if you would love the Fun Day to be held but are not able to help then that’s absolutely fine – but we’d love your opinion. If you’re happy to help for an hour or two on a stall then that would be fantastic – please let us know. And if you want to help with the organising then please come along to the pub next Sunday.

This is a great opportunity for the village to get together and have lots of fun. I hope we are able to make it happen. Please contact Penny via the contact form on the website or by telephone – 07724243263 – or we’ll see you in the pub next Sunday!

  • Rogue’s Gallery Cabaret

Following the success of their March show in Haddington, Rogue Village will be hosting their next Rogue’s Gallery on Saturday 8 April at Tyninghame Village Hall – for tickets and more information, see the Rogue Village website.

“Rogue’s Gallery – a curiously curated cabaret. A monthly night of live music, dance, visuals, magic, circus and anything else that takes our fancy. A quality and captivating event transforming intimate venues across East Lothian.”

The Matinee is family friendly (4+) and very suitable for all ages, especially families with older children and teens. Evening show is 18+ only, a more laid back, social affair – a night-out, peppered with performance.

  • Garvald History Book

Following the successful local history night last summer, organised by the John Grey Centre Archives Department, local resident Tim Flinn suggested that Irene Anderson‘s book ‘Garvald, the history of an East Lothian Parish‘ could be digitised for archiving purposes and perhaps reformatted to make it easier to read. Heidi Ingram agreed this was a great idea, as there are few surviving copies of the printed book and the text may be of interest to village residents who haven’t seen it before. Due to the tiny print in the original book not being great for word scanning software, she dictated the work into digital format and scanned in Irene’s illustrations. She used these to produce a revised and updated second edition, including recent local projects and information from the 2011 Census. This edition has been published in her memory, knowing that she would have been delighted that her extensive and important research lives on and has been archived for posterity. Her sister has been sent information about the project. It is formatted primarily for online reading (but has been set to A5 page size so that it could be printed with two pages per A4 sheet). It can be found on the History of Garvald page.
