  • Village Christmas Dinner: last call …

The Village Christmas Dinner takes places on Thursday week. So that the catering team can shop accordingly, can all acceptance slips and monies be returned by close of play on Friday? Just pop them in the locked letterbox on the gates at the The Rowans. Many thanks in advance.

    • What’s the digital equivalent of a stuck record?!

Someone blogging incessant reminders … Sorry to those who have already submitted their 100 Club dues for 2014-15. But here’s a final call for those who haven’t. Could you please return the form and cash to Hazel or Katy asap. Many thanks in advance!

    • Quiz Night – in aid of Gifford Playgroup …

A reminder about the quiz night, which is happening in the Garvald Inn this Saturday from 8.30pm. It’s £5 per team of four people, with proceeds going to the local playgroup.

    • Keep ’em coming!

There has already been a very positive response to this year’s village Christmas Dinner. Many thanks to all of you who’ve RSVP-ed already … Here’s a wee reminder for those that haven’t. It’s in the hall at 7pm on Thursday 4th December. All adult residents are invited, at a charge of £5 per head. If you could contribute to the buffet, it would be most appreciated – either a salad to accompany the turkey or a cold desert as Christmas pudding is never enough … To download the flier, click here.

    • Cub Leaders required for Gifford Cub Scouts – can you help?

Alastair McClung will be handing over the reins as Cub Scout Leader in Gifford in June 2015 after 12 years. Over the years he has given local girls and boys a place to meet, play games and earn Cub badges. He has provided fantastic opportunities for outdoor adventure, camps, mountain biking, climbing, hiking, skiing, karting and the chance to put something back into the community through Bob-a-job, litter-picking etc.

To allow Gifford Cubs to continue, we need some new Cub Scout Leaders. Alastair is happy to assist with outdoor activities and camps in 2015-16, but needs to find one or more people to become Cub Leaders on Monday nights (6-7.30pm). It’s all about games and badges and having fun, with a small amount of training to assist you. It’s not a huge commitment but extremely worthwhile. If anyone is interested in helping out with Gifford Cubs now or in the future (you do not need to be a parent), please use the Contact form to let Alastair know. Thank you.

    • Opportunities for children – your opinion is needed

      A message from Penny Short:

Calling all children, young people and their parents! – your opinion is needed.

The next Haddington & Lammermuir Area Partnership Meeting is on Wednesday 12th November. This will focus on opportunities for children and young people in the area and I will be attending as a representative from Garvald and Morham Community Council.

We want to support children in our area to get the best start in life, providing our young people with opportunities to become successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens.  During the meeting we will be discussing the question “What do you believe are the specific issues affecting the opportunities for children and young people in the ward and what can be done to address them?” and I’d love to hear what you think.

What can we do to enhance opportunities for children?  If anyone has any thoughts or ideas please let me know using the contact form below, before 12th November. The lack of effective broadband is obviously an issue and transport also impacts on opportunities for kids and young people. Both of these issues will be discussed in greater detail at future meetings, along with any other suggestions put forward by you and those attending the meeting.

      Thank you.
