  • Hogmanay 2012???

For some years, a small group of GVHT committee members have staged a Family Ceilidh to herald in the New Year. It has proven a popular and well attended event, drawing revellers from the village and wider area. This year though, a number of said committee members are going to be away. Whilst those who remain would like to continue the Hogmanay tradition, they doubt they can with such limited manpower. Do you think you could help? To sound out the community, there will be a meeting in the Hall at 7.30pm on Thursday 1st November. If  you are unable to come along, but are keen to be involved, drop us a line. Or have a word with Caroline McGregor, Vicki Short or Hazel Clark. Many thanks in advance.

  • It’s National Poetry Day!

So here’s a wee composition for you …

We concede it’s not very good. But hopefully it’s acted as a reminder!

For more information about our poetry competition, please see the competition pages here.

  • Calling all home-bakers!

A reminder that it’s the Garvald Flower Show on Saturday 25th August. We’d like to make the usual request for donations of home-baked cakes and biscuits so we can provide afternoon teas at the Show. Please bring along your baked goodies to the Village Hall on the day.

    Thank you!

  • Hogmanay …

Yes, Hogmanay. I know it seems a VERY long way away, with summer only just beginning and all that. But time flies, especially when the sun shines …

Would anybody be interested in helping arrange the annual New Year’s Eve ceilidh? For those who have not been before, it’s an informal family gathering in the Hall with a simple supper, a few drinks and lots of dancing. Drop us a line if you’d like to help. There will be a quick preliminary meeting very soon, and planning will go from there …

  • The rainy season …

I believe they normally call this the “silly season” in mainstream media, when there are few big news items and the bulletins are padded out with non stories. This year, it seems more like the “rainy season.” Will it EVER stop?!

Here we are in-between big village events. The Jubilee already seems an age ago. And it is still over a month until the Flower Show. If you are looking for something to do on these unending wet days, remember there are lots of craft classes at the latter – especially for the youngsters in the village. Use the time to make a model animal (under 5s,) design a miniature garden (5 to 8s and 9 to12s,) or compose a rap (teens.) All the details can be found in the show schedule Best of luck!!!

  • Thank-you!

Many thanks to all those who came to yesterday’s Jumble Sale, and spent so readily. We raised £700, and counting. An excellent result, given the economic environment … The next big event in the Hall is the Annual Village Show on Saturday 25th August. If you haven’t got a hard copy programme yet, then please do let us know. Otherwise, they can be downloaded here.
