Garvald Church Restoration and Oral History Heritage Project
We are currently developing a project to repair Garvald Parish Church. With parts of the building dating back to the 12th century, the church is in need of some tender loving care! A project development grant of £1,900 from the National Churches Trust has enabled us to carry out a condition report of the building which has identified repair costs of £180K.
As part of the project we are looking to gather memories of both the church and of life in Garvald, so that we can create an exhibition in the church about the church and village life.
We also aim to improve the graveyard, which has some particularly interesting gravestones and mort-house.
We have set up a Friends Group to manage this project and ongoing management of the church building in the future.
