Gifford Film Club Restarting with The Truffle Hunters
Gifford Film Club is back
£20 for 8 films or £5 payable at the door
First film is 11 March – The Truffle Hunters
Gifford Village Hall 8pm (doors open 7.30)

Deep in the forests of Piedmont, Italy, a handful of old men hunt for the rare
and expensive white Alba truffle. They’re guided by a secret culture and training as well as by the noses of their cherished and expertly trained dogs.
The demand for white truffles increases year after year and with the lack of young people taking up the mantle, the truffle hunters’ secrets are more coveted than ever

Christmas Eve Service
There will be a service in Garvald Church at 6 pm on Christmas Eve and a Watchnight service in Morham Church at 11.30 pm.
All your favourite carols – with a mask on!

Even Bigger thank you
Thanks to some very generous donations and extra soup money, the total amount raised for Edinburgh Royal ICU at the Garvald Christmas Social has risen to £1119.82. That’s fabulous! Thanks to everyone.
Garvald Kids’ Christmas Party CANCELLED
Following the advice of the Scottish Government, it is with a heavy heart that we have decided to cancel this year’s Garvald Kids’ Christmas Party.
Apologies for any disappointment this might cause.
Big Thank You
A HUGE thank you to everyone who contributed to the Christmas Social Event on Sunday. We raised a massive £778.10 for Edinburgh Royal ICU and had a good bit of chat at the same time.
Thanks to the Community Council for funding the purchase of the gazebo (now available for anyone in the community to borrow for a small fee) and the lights. Admittedly the solar-powered lights are not very bright, but the rechargeable strip light is better.
Thanks to all the artists for their beautiful art, to Jimmie and Murray Thomson for installing the art-boards and to Niall and Sarah Donaldson for storing the art boards, and transporting them by forklift truck to the hall!
Thanks to Liz for making all that delicious soup and juggling trays of sausage rolls and mince pies in the kitchen. Thanks to Elaine and Norma for sterling work on the raffle – there may be a raffle prize making its way to you in the near future. Thanks to Anne and Phillip for creating a little taste of a continental Christmas with their mulled wine stall, and thanks to our fabulous young musicians and DJs ( and their roadies.)
So that’s it for another year – this is the-one-who-was-running-around-like-a-headless-chicken signing off.
Happy Christmas!

Garvald Kids’ Christmas Party

3-5pm
Garvald Village Hall
There will be a selection of crafts and games, a baby mat with toys etc for the littlest ones, snack and a visit from a very special someone.
*(Please remember to bring a small, wrapped, well labelled gift for each child you are bringing to the party, for Santa’s sack).
If you would like to donate a small plate of sharing food to the snack, please contact Viki or Gemma (or use the contact form, below) and let us know what you are planning to bring so we can make sure we have a selection.

A Garvald Village Christmas
Continuing the tradition which we started last year, there will be an outdoor Christmas Social event on
Sunday 5th December between 4.30 pm and 6.30 pm
- Start off with a wander through the Village Hall admiring the artwork on display…..see below….
- Buy loads of tickets for the Christmas raffle in aid of Edinburgh Royal Infirmary ICU
- Collect your soup and sausage roll from the kitchen – a bargain at £3 per adult
- Stroll out to the orchard to eat them and sit under the solar-powered fairy lights ( we’re doing our bit for the climate!) while listening to music provided by the youngsters.
- They’ll be playing in our fancy new gazebo
- Enjoy a glass of mulled wine, a mince pie and a good chat
- Wear your Santa hats, antlers, fairy lights, tinsel and wrap up warm
- Celebrate outrageously when you win some bubble-bath
- And if that’s not enough you can even wind up with a visit to the Garvald Inn
It would be ideal to get some numbers in advance. Please put your soup money in an envelope and deliver to Anne at The Old School with a note of how many in your family group are coming. PLEASE try to let us know by 3rd December. Or else complete the contact form on the website.
Now about that artwork – we have contacted some local artists who will put up some art……but we would like as many children/fun-loving adults as possible to paint/draw/build with Lego/construct with junk/write a poem/make a Christmas card – whatever you like – and bring it to the hall on 4th December between 10 am and 12 noon . Every artist will be rewarded with a chocolate Santa…..irresistible!
