A whopping great thank-you to all the Hall AGM attendees …

Wow, what a turn out?! Thank-you to all those who came along tonight, and to those who sent their apologies as well. It was great to see new faces, as well as old. The Trustees and Committee very much enjoyed hearing your thoughts as well as answering your questions. Here’s to another great year in the Hall!

Hall AGM, 7.30pm on Wednesday …

We appreciate you all lead busy lives and suffer from many competing priorities, but it would make such a difference if there was a good turnout at tomorrow’s Hall AGM. It’s at 7.30pm, and there will be cake, biscuits or both! Please PLEASE *PLEASE* try spare an hour or so of your time.

One for the nature lovers …

A kind offer from Barrie Ash:

“I currently receive ‘Scottish Wildlife’ from Scottish Wildlife Trust, which is published three times each year as well as ‘Natures Home’ from the RSPB, which has a Scotland News supplement and is published quarterly.

Instead of ultimately consigning them to the recycling box, if there is anyone in the village or nearby who is interested, or might be starting out in learning about our wildlife, you would be welcome to have a look at them. I would be pleased to pass them, after having had a good read myself of course!”

BBC Radio Scotland’s Big Debate with Gordon Brewer in North Berwick, Friday 30th October

A message from Sarah Heardman, a researcher from BBC Radio Scotland:

I am writing to you from The Big Debate with Gordon Brewer, BBC Radio Scotland’s version of the TV debate programme Question Time.

We are in North Berwick for our weekly Friday lunchtime debate 30th October and we are looking for a lively audience to come along and join our live debate on the topical issues of the week. All are welcome. If you would like to come along, please access the online application form http://bbc.in/1Al9Rpx, email bigdebate@bbc.co.uk or phone 0141 422 7773.

WHERE: St Andrew Blackadder Church, St Andrew St, North Berwick,

WHEN: Friday 30thOctober, 2015

TIMES: Doors open at the venue at 11:15am the show is on air from 12pm – 1pm

Former Newsnight presenter Gordon Brewer is the host of The Big Debate.

Every Friday the programme visits a different part of Scotland to discuss the big issues of the week. Gordon will be joined by a panel of speakers from the world of Politics, Arts, Science, Business and other areas of public life. But we want you – the audience – to pose the questions.

We look for questions on the most stimulating moral, political and social issues of the day – the current issues that will get people talking. So the programme gives YOU the opportunity to challenge politicians, policy makers, writers and thinkers.

Questions should be brief and to the point if possible and should be on something that’s been reported in the news. As the programme broadcasts to a Scotland-wide audience, we look for issues that raise matters of genuine national and international interest, and remember to keep an eye on the newspapers. Once you know what you want to ask, email your question to us at bigdebate@bbc.co.uk by 5.00pm, Thursday 29th October.  Please be aware we are not able to guarantee that all questions will be used.

Garvald Village Hall Trust AGM …

A wee reminder that it is the Hall AGM a week on Wednesday – 21st October at 7.30pm.

By now, you should have all received an open letter from the current, and retiring, Hall Chairman Barrie Ash. In it, he emphasises the real need for villagers to attend this meeting – to have their say in the ongoing running of their Hall. Moreover, he highlights the need for new blood on the management committee – especially as this year is an election year. According to the Constitution, the management committee must choose a Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary. Even if the incumbents wish to stand again and are unopposed, at least ten villagers should to be there to vote. In 2014, only seven turned up …

So please, dairy the time and the date. An hour of your time next week, could help set up the Hall for another two years. That’s two more Halloween parties, 100 more post offices and over a 1000 games of table tennis at the very least!

Your Hall needs you!
