Send in your RSVPS for the Christmas Dinner

If you can try and send them in THIS WEEK that would be fabulous – by the 30th November please.

And don’t forget, if you have a teenager hanging around who wants to earn some Christmas cash washing dishes, get in touch with Caroline at the Old Schoolhouse or Trudi up at Carfrae Farm shop. We already have our two lovely helpers from last year but the more the merrier.

and only 19 days until the Garvald Christmas Dinner.

Please send in your RSVPs as soon as possible and remember to say if you are vegetarian or vegan so that we can procure an appropriate number of veggie sausages.

If you can’t find your invitation it might have slipped under the door mat, or there are some spare ones on the notice boards. And dig out the Christmas jumpers and tinsel so you are all prepared.

The film to be shown on Friday 14th November is “Fremont” – postponed from October because of technical difficulties. It’s a black and white film about an Afghan girl living in San Francisco and getting involved in the Fortune Cookie business. Some deadpan humour and a quiet, thoughtful atmosphere. Curry Night at the Lanterne Rouge to kick off with.

Tuesday 10th November

7.30 pm in the hall

It’s going to be short and sweet because the talk by David Walls starts at 8.00 pm with cheese and wine

For Remembrance, this year there will be one service for the whole Lammermuir parish.

Sunday, 9^th November will begin with an Act of Remembrance at 10.50 am at the Gifford War Memorial outside Yester Church, where everyone from all parts of the parish who have given their lives during the Wars will be remembered.

This will be followed by a Remembrance service in Yester Church for all ages, at which everyone is welcome.

Since Garvald war memorial is currently under scaffolding, there will be no act of Remembrance here.

The clocks are about to go back, winter is coming and yet – Hurray! – the annual Garvald Christmas Dinner to look forward to. As usual it will take place on the first Thursday in December (the 4th) at 7pm. Look out for the invitations coming through your letter-boxes very soon.

This is a wonderful opportunity for any teenagers out there to earn some Christmas cash by helping with the serving and washing-up. If you’re interested you can speak to Trudi at Carfrae Farm Shop or Caroline at The Old Schoolhouse. We would love to get you involved.

Garvald Village Hall Meeting

The next Committee meeting will be held on Wednesday 22nd October at 7.30 pm.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the coffee morning on Saturday with your baking, chutney, honey, apples, pears and muscle-power. And to everyone who came along to spend money.

We made a splendid £384.31 for the village hall.

Approximately 8 vintage hand-embroidered white linen tablecloths belonging to the Village Hall are no longer required and are available for sale. You will get a chance to buy them at the next exciting event –
