The following letter has been received from the Building Surveyors GLM, responsible for the construction work on Garvald Church:
Dear Garvald Resident,
We are writing to neighbours near to Garvald Church to inform you that construction work is scheduled to commence at the end of June.
The work is part of repairs to the building and we expect it to continue for approximately 6 months. This may be followed by work to the interiors of the building.
We are committed to minimising any inconvenience and ensuring that disruption is kept to a minimum. Construction activities will typically take place between 08.00 and 17.00, Monday to Friday.
We have instructed our contractors to be mindful of noise levels, parking and cleanliness in the area. We have arranged for construction waste to be bagged and transported off-site meaning we can avoid having skips located on the roads within the village.
Nonetheless, if you have any concerns or experience any issues during the construction period, please notify us.

On Sunday 8th June at 3pm everyone is invited to come along to Garvald Church for a short but sure-to-be-interesting event to acknowledge the generosity of Linda Leith in buying the Church and making it available for the community.
There will be some history, some stories, some music, a special performance by the band Off Grid, and then refreshments (including cake) in the Stables
Come for a fun afternoon with cream teas and coffees, games, a tombola and a raffle.
Saturday 7th June, 2 – 4.30pm, Manse Garden, Tweeddale Avenue, Gifford
Live music, ice cream and other refreshments, plant and home produce stalls, face painting.
Adults £5 ( including cream tea)
Children under 12 – free

Don’t forget the inaugural Garvald Coffee Safari on Saturday morning 31st May.
11 am at Carfrae Farm Shop.
Plenty of time to get your shopping/cleaning/hair done before that and then rendezvous at Carfrae for coffee and chat.

An enticing array of events is about to take place in Garvald ( and Gifford) ……
on 24th May at 10 am a few volunteers are needed to help clear the Stables garden which has become extremely overgrown. Cake will be available for all helpers. The garden will then be a delightful venue for Ladies Suppers and for more tea and cake on 8th June – see below. If you can, please bring some secateurs or loppers.
on 31st May at 11 am the inaugural coffee safari will take place. Everyone who fancies a catch-up and a chat, is invited to make their way up to Carfrae Farm on foot, by bike, by car and have a cup of coffee ( paid for by the Community Council) and any cakes that take your fancy up there. The cannoli are extremely good.
on 7th June at 2pm the annual Lammermuir Parish Garden Party will be held in the Manse garden, Tweedale Ave., Gifford. Everyone is invited and there are a whole lot of fantastic activities as well as – you guessed it – cake!
on 8th June at 3pm in Garvald Church, there will be a special Thanksgiving event to recognise the generosity of Linda Leith who bough the church from Church of Scotland. Restoration of the roof is due to start later in June and hopefully there will be many future celebrations there. On 8th June there will be bit of history, a bit of singing, a blessing, a special appearance by OFF-GRID ( who were sensational in the pub last week) and afterwards in the Stables Garden MORE CAKE.
