Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue …

Looking for a wedding venue? Something a “bit different?” A “blank canvas” onto which you can project your wishes and whims, be it a hoe-down something more Jazz Age or just a plain old country idyll? Well look no further, as Garvald Village Hall really does tick all the boxes.

The Hall is “something old,” something very old in fact. The building was constructed as a Free Kirk over 150 years ago, and is listed with Historic Scotland because of its many period features. The orchard in front is filled with mature fruit trees, but there is still enough space for a small marquee should you want to say your vows outside …

The Hall has “something new” though, many things actually. It has been extensively but considerately modernised over the years, and made totally accessible to wheelchairs. The kitchen is of particular note, with large work services and a commercial hob. It has enabled both professional and amateur caterers to turn out everything from finger buffets to fine dining. Guests don’t go hungry in Garvald!

The Hall was given to the Village, and is now managed by a Trust run by local volunteers. If hired for a wedding, it is effectively “something borrowed” from Garvald – and don’t worry, the residents are happy enough to share. Moreover, the hire charge is akin to a charitable donation. The Trust will plough every penny back into maintenance and upkeep. So when you re-visit a few years hence, hopefully with some wee ones, the Hall will still be secure, looking lovely and ready to jog your memories …

“Something blue?” The sky of course, as the weather can be glorious in East Lothian. And if you don’t believe, just look at the pictures on the rest of this website. There’s proof!

Should any of this have piqued your interest, and got you thinking that Garvald Village Hall might just be the wedding venue for you, then please do not hesitate to get in touch. Click here to contact the volunteer in charge of bookings. They will be able to answer any questions, and give you even more ideas. Cheers!

Rumble in the Jumble!

Yes, it’s THAT weekend – the annual village Jumble Sale in aid of Village Hall funds!

Set up in the Hall at 6.30pm tonight/Friday. Volunteers are needed to wrestle with the trestle tables. Please come along if you have a spare few minutes …

Hall open for stock tomorrow/Saturday from 12 till 2pm. Please drop off your donations, and don’t forget to check the Hall’s lost property as anything unclaimed will go into the sale!

And then it’s the big one on Sunday, the sale from 12 till 2pm. Browse for bargains, and pick up some brunch. And when you’ve done that, why not offer to help out? Stalls will need manning for the duration, and then there’s tidying up …

So, let’s get ready to rumble in the jumble – and turn some muck into brass!

Lots of lost items found in the Hall …

… at the recent spring clean, lots of “lost” items were “found.” They are too numerous to catalogue here, but will be on display in the Hall on Saturday during the Jumble Sale set up. We suggest you come along, have a look and see whether anything is yours. Those items which aren’t claimed will then be sold in the sale on Sunday.

Let’s get ready to Jumble …

It is the annual village jumble sale this weekend – the perfect opportunity for you to dispose of those bits and bobs cluttering the house, whilst helping to raise valuable funds for the Hall.

The Hall will be open for donations on two occasions: on Friday evening, between 6.30 and 7.30pm; and on Saturday, from 12 until 2pm. The sale itself is on Sunday, starting at 12 and finishing at 2pm.

If you’ve got a wee bit of free time, why not volunteer to help out? Assistance is going to be needed at set up on Friday and Saturday, and during the event on Sunday. Drop us a line and let us know, or see any member of the Hall Management Committee.
