This Friday, 11th April, the film to be shown at Gifford Film Club is Honeyland – from Macedonia. It tells the story of one of the last wild beekeepers in Europe whose traditional way of life centred on collecting honey from wild bees, is disturbed by the arrival of a noisy and rambunctious family. A delicious pre-film supper is available at the Lanterne Rouge if you want to make a night of it.

FREE Piano!

Does anyone have use for an upright piano? It has been a teaching piano so not exactly concert quality. Will need to be uplifted from the Garvald area.

The fundraiser on Friday 14th March has now raised £2,100 for UKRAINE thanks to the extent of support from so many in and around Garvald. A great evening was enjoyed even as wallets were emptied.

PUBlic Philosophy: Talking Whales at the Garvald Inn – Thursday 8th May at 8pm

We have a special PUBlic Philosophy event scheduled for Thursday 8 May, 8-10pm at the Garvald Inn.

Inbal Arnon (Professor of Psychology from Hebrew University) and Simon Kirby (Professor of Linguistics and English Language from the University of Edinburgh) will lead a discussion about the similarities between whale language and human languages. You have probably heard about their work in the news recently; the published research is here.

    All welcome as always!

The film showing on Friday March 14th is “The Taste of Things” starring Juliet Binoche – romantic, French, food-based,  – mais OUI, s’il vous plait!

Film starts at 8 pm so there is plenty of time to call in to Garvald pub in advance to contribute to the Ukraine fundraiser. And even time for a pre-film supper at the Lanterne Rouge.  And it’s still massively good value to become a member of the Club – £30 for 8 films.
