Remembrance Service

A Service of Remembrance will take place at Garvald Church on Sunday 14th November at 9.30 am. The service will begin outside the Church at the War Memorial, and those who wish may then continue with the rest of the service inside the Church.

Tea and Coffee will be available afterwards in The Stables.

It has also been decided that we may return to our great tradition in Garvald of the Church being open to everyone, every day. Please take the chance to visit the church as often as you like since it is looking increasingly likely that the Church of Scotland will sell Garvald Church within the next few years.

Tree Felling in wood to the west of Garvald park

A selective thinning of trees is due to begin week commencing 25th October. The intention is to remove mainly sycamore and pine, leaving a selection of better quality hardwoods, primarily beech. This work will also address the trees that were (partially) blown down last winter following the removal of trees to the south of Papana Water. The wood will be closed for the duration of this work. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Harvest Food Bank

The Harvest Thanksgiving Service will take place in Garvald Church on Sunday 31st October at 9.30 am. We would like to collect donations for the Food Bank from anyone in the Church or Village who would like to help. There is a green plastic box sitting in the bus-shelter beside the Village Green where donations of non-perishable food or toiletries may be left at any time. The box will be emptied regularly and everything transferred to the Church from where it will be taken to the Food Bank after 31st October. We had a fantastic response last time we did this so please help with anything you can spare.

27th October – Thanks so much for all the donations so far – please keep them coming

The Garvald children’s Hallowe’en party is back!

It’s taking place from 4-6pm on Sunday 31st October at the Village Hall. All young ghosts, witches etc are welcome; look out for posters around the village soon!

The children will be guising in small groups accompanied by adults. If you are happy for the children to come to your door please put out a pumpkin or other Hallowe’en decoration so we know they are welcome.

Contact Meg (Beehive Cottage)or Chiara (Broomfield House) for more information.

Thanks from Village Hall Committee

Many thanks to those who kindly contributed produce to the stall outside the Village Hall, during our Decorated Doors day.

Thanks to the generosity of those who then did the buying we managed to raise a much needed £204 for village hall funds.

Hopefully everyone agrees that it added to the overall enjoyment of a lovely Garvald day.

Whoever organised the weather deserves a special thanks.

Decorated Doors Day

Hopefully everybody is looking forward to the Decorated Doors Day on Saturday 28th August. The annual Garvald Flower Show usually includes a sale of produce and it has been suggested that we could do the same thing this year to raise much needed funds for the Village Hall. Any plants or produce or home-baking that you are willing to donate, can be brought along to a stall outside the Village Hall from 1 pm onwards. Many thanks in advance.
