PUBlic Philosophy – CHANGE OF DATE
With apologies for the inconvenience, we have had to change the date of the next Public Philosophy meeting at the Garvald Inn (to accommodate a change in the availability of the speakers). We will now meet on Thursday 28th May.
Updated flyer below – soon to appear on a village notice board near you!
At the next PUBlic Philosophy event at our Garvald Inn we ask:
Who Owns the Clyde?
Discussion led by Louise Welsh (Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Glasgow), Jude Barber (Architect and Director at Collective Architecture) and Rowan Cruft (Professor in Philosophy at the University of Stirling).
All welcome! Thursday 28th May, 8pm until 10pm, at our Garvald Inn.
Bereavement
Locals will be sad to hear that Fr Leonard – a familiar face around the village on his daily walk – has passed away. Latterly, he had been a resident of Ashley House Care Home in North Berwick.
The film to be shown in Gifford Village Hall on Friday 13th February is “A Complete Unknown” – a great biography of Bob Dylan covering his arrival in New York and breaking onto “The Scene”. As usual doors open at 7.30pm, film starts at 8 pm.
You can invest in an annual membership of the Film club for only £30 – covering 9 films, or a guest membership for one night at £5.
And if you are lucky there might be a couple of spaces left for a pre-film supper at the Lanterne Rouge.

Garvald & Morham Community Council News
The questionnaire asks for parents and carers’ understanding of their entitlement, their current use of childcare and potential future plans, their experiences accessing provision and their priorities when choosing Early Learning and Childcare. Parents are also asked whether they would wish to pay for additional hours, such as before or after standard drop-off and pick-up times, at council or private provider settings.
The survey will be open until 9 March 2026 and is available online here if you would like to take part.
Art Exhibition at Humbie Hub
The exhibition “Amore per Posta” launches on Friday 13th February and features a lovely collection of miniature artworks created by multiple artists, all exploring the theme of love and Valentine’s Day. We’d love to spread the word within the community.

Fr. Leonard
Fr Leonard from Nunraw Abbey, who has been a regular feature doing his afternoon walk through Garvald for many years, has sadly had to be admitted to a care home in Dunbar for his own health.
I am sure we will all be wishing him our best.
