    Pop-Up Police Event in Garvald

On Saturday 21st November between 11am and 1pm, the Police will be hosting a pop up police event in Garvald. Please come along and report any incidents, get some crime prevention advice and chat to our officers.

This is to meet and greet people in the community who otherwise would not be able to attend at a police station.
It will be held outside the village hall.
    See you then.

Upcycling Project for a Covid Winter

Here is a fantastic opportunity for anybody looking for a little creative project to keep them busy during the dark winter nights. The photo below shows two chairs – there are 20 altogether – which can be stained/painted/varnished and decorated any way you like. They can be ribboned/cushioned/accessorised and even sat on! Then next summer they can be entered in the specially created category in the Garvald Flower Show for upcycled chairs – and you can bask in the admiration of all your neighours. All we ask in return for a chair, is a small donation to the church roof fund.

Please use the contact form to request a chair or several chairs

Bin Fire – Garvald Village Hall

One of the wheelie bins outside the hall was set alight this evening , Thursday 5th November,  sometime around 7pm .  There was a Drama class in the hall at the time and the children were understandably upset .

Matches in the bin would suggest the fire was started deliberately and the police have been made aware.

Please contact anyone on the hall committee if you have any information that might be relevant .  Alternatively, use the contact form, below, and it will be passed on to the relevant person.

        Remembrance Day 2020

Remembrance Day commemorations are being severely restricted by the Covid 19 regulations.  There will be no public events in our area, although members of the Lieutenancy team will quietly lay wreaths on Sunday morning.

A short video made by Iain Clark of the East Lothian Lieutenancy:

        Thanks for donations

Massive thanks to everyone who donated goods for the Food Bank appeal. Everything in the photo here will be delivered to Tranent Food Bank.

Next Sunday there will be a Remembrance Service in Morham Church at 9.30 am.

Harvest Thanksgiving Service – Food Bank Donations

Thanks to everyone who has been so generous already with their donations for the Food Bank. There is still time to donate before Sunday, by leaving your donation in the plastic box which has been placed in the bus shelter next to the village green.

And just to reassure anyone who is worried about the wisdom of a gathering inside the Church – everyone wears masks and keeps a healthy distance from everyone else; We could double the numbers and still have loads of space. There is no singing, chanting or hugging! It will just be a calm, quiet and reflective Harvest Thanksgiving Service at 9.30 am in on Sunday 1st November.

        Thanks in advance

        Halloween in Garvald

The new guidance from the Scottish Government calls for no knocking on doors for Halloween this year but there will still be a Spooky Trail  through the woods for the kids to enjoy.

If you would like to contribute to the atmosphere and decorate your house, families can walk through the village and appreciate the spooky sights.  There will also be a “Best Pumpkin” accolade for the most creative jack o’ lantern.

For those who want to leave a wee treat for kids who come past, please leave bagged or wrapped treats near your gate or door in a way that kids can take one without lots of handling, e.g. hanging on a sweetie tree, clipped to a treat wreath, or set out on a table or large tray.

Harvest Thanksgiving – Food Bank Donations

There will be a Harvest Thanksgiving Service in Garvald Church on Sunday 1st November at 9.30 am. Everyone is welcome.

In order to mark the occasion we are planning to collect donations for the East Lothian Food Bank. You can bring your donation to the church next Sunday morning or you can leave it in the plastic box which has been placed in the bus shelter next to the village green. The box will be emptied every day.

        Thanks in advance
