Isaac Ingram’s winning music played by Tim Peake in space!

astropiIn December 2015, British ESA Astronaut Tim Peake blasted off to the International Space Station for Mission Principia and two Raspberry Pi computers were sent there for him to use. As part of his mission, he has been running experiments created and coded by school students, using the ‘AstroPi’ computers.

Isaac Ingram recently won the 11-13 years age group in the AstroPi Coding Challenge competition, coding a piece of electronic music using SonicPi software. There was a long list of judges including SonicPi creator Sam Aaron, members of synthpop giants OMD and film composer Ilan Eshkeri.

Today his piece of music, Final Frontier, was played on the AstroPi computer in the International Space Station for the first time, by Tim Peake!!

2016 Pantomime Trip!

The snow has been falling this week and so it’s perfect timing for sending out info on this year’s Christmas Panto trip!!

Very advance notice…

Following our successful trip last year we are returning to the Edinburgh Lyceum in December to see “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” which is suitable for children aged 5+.

Suggested dates for the trip are Saturday 3rd, Saturday 17th or Sunday 18th December, all matinee performances at 2pm.

We have once again been awarded windfarm funding so the price of the trip will be greatly subsidised for residents of the Garvald and Morham area. The price will include theatre tickets and free return coach travel.  As was the case last year, children must be accompanied by an adult, but villagers of all ages are welcome. Please let Penny Short know as soon as possible (via the Contact Form) if you would be interested in coming along and which dates suit you, so we can get the ball rolling and pre-book our tickets.

If other pantomimes are preferable then we would welcome any efforts to organise an alternative trip – help and funding advice would be given.

Laing family history message from Lynn Samuels

A message from Lynn Samuels of New Zealand:

Hi, I remember coming out to the farm where my Uncle Johnny and Auntie Cath Laing were living. Uncle Johnny was Grieve for the Youngers, followed by his son John, married to May. It would be great if members of the family wanted to get in contact. I have a Highland cattle fold in Dunedin New Zealand and would love to hear from anyone that wants to get in touch.

Best wishes, Lynn.

John Cumming

We report the sad news that John Cumming of Papana Cottages has died. His funeral will be at Warriston Crematorium at 10am on Thursday 21st April.
