Christian Aid Week 2021 – Focus on climate crisis

10 – 16 May 2021

This climate crisis hurts us all. But people living in poverty fight the worst of it every day.

Christian Aid Week

From drought to flooding, climate change robs people of control over their lives. Extreme weather means people like Rose are struggling to survive without a reliable source of water.

Your gift could help a community build an earth dam, so when the rains do come, they will have the water they need to live. A reliable source of water will help families withstand long drought or relentless rainstorms.

Every envelope. Every gift. Every challenge can change lives.

Christian Aid envelopes will be delivered through your letterboxes over the next couple of days. Please donate whatever you can.  Due to Covid 19 it has been decided that volunteers will not be knocking on your door to collect the envelopes but you can either deliver them yourself to The Old Schoolhouse, Garvald – there will be a collection bucket at the door.

Or you can donate on-line. https://www.christianaid.org.uk/

Or you can complete the form below asking for your donation envelope to be collected.

Thank you !

Christmas Message from East Lothian Council

We would like to share a short YouTube video, created by the ELC Communications team, ‘A festive message to our communities’, featuring the EL Provost, John McMillan and the Lord Lieutenant, Michael Williams, reflecting on this unprecedented year we are about to leave (thank goodness) thanking  communities, throughout East Lothian during COVID 19, for their enthusiasm, commitment and extraordinary efforts:

      Thanks for Rockin’

Thanks to everybody who came out yesterday and contributed in any way to our Christmas event. It was great to feel part of a small community again (although slightly scary to see so many people in one place, even if it was outside!) A special thanks and welcome to all the newcomers. For those of you who are ill or vulnerable and couldn’t join us – we missed you.

Thanks to Peter and Elaine for delicious soup and mince pies.

Thanks to our Buskers in the bus-shelter and and the Little Drummer Boy in the van

Thanks to Murray and Tracey for the use of their gazebo – it will probably never be quite the same again.

Thanks to Liz for masterminding the whole thing, and particularly the wooden decorations for the tree – there are more available from Kirklands, beside the Church.

Thanks for all the raffle prizes and your enthusiastic participation in that activity – we raised a stunning £264.80 for Crisis, the homeless charity.

Wishing everyone a very Happy and Healthy Christmas.

PS Watch this space for the photos.

Rockin’ around the Garvald Christmas Tree

Don’t forget to come and pick up your Christmas decorations for personalising before Sunday.

They will be available from the bus shelter on the Village Green between 10.30 and 11.30 am on Saturday morning.

Drop off your soup money to Anne at the Old School at the same time.

And on Sunday, wrap up warm and bring your brolly!! 4.30 pm – 6pm

Exciting raffle prize of a night in holiday cottage plus the usual sorts of liquid raffle prizes!

      Christmas Church Services

Sunday 13th December: 3rd Sunday in Advent. 9.30 am service in Garvald Church
Sunday 20th December: 4th Sunday in Advent. 9.30 am service in Morham Church
Thursday 24th December : Christmas Eve service in Garvald Church at 6.00 pm. We will play recordings of carols and you can hum along behind your masks. Members of the congregation will do readings of the Christmas story. For the final carol, weather permitting, we would like to go outside the church, spread out as much as we can and gently sing.
Christmas Eve Watchnight Service in Morham Church at 11.30 pm will follow the same plan.
To guarantee a space in the church at either or both of the Christmas Eve Services please use the contact form below. We will endeavour to fit in any late arrivals but the capacity of each church is significantly reduced right now.

Christmas Eve collections will be in aid of Leuchie House
