Whiteadder: The Historic Heart of the Lammermuirs
Garvald Village Hall Thursday 12 September 6pm
In 2019 and 2020, an exciting new archaeology project takes place across East Lothian and the Scottish Borders. Making use of newly-acquired, high-resolution LiDAR data, this new study will provide a new insight into the landscape history of the Lammermuir Hills. Many new archaeological and historical sites will be recorded for the first time, and some of the area’s most spectacular forts, castles and farmsteads will be seen in a new light. The project is a collaborative community initiative: come along to hear how you can get involved in investigating the archaeology of the Lammermuirs and learning more about the history that has shaped the way they appear today.

For full programme see www.eastlothian.gov.uk/archaeologyfortnight
AOC Archaeology are excited to announce that we will soon be running excavations at the site of Morham Castle in East Lothian.
In the 12th century an imposing castle overlooked a secluded river valley near Haddington in East Lothian. The tower was the residence of the Morham family, who give their name to the village found there today. By the 18th century the castle was gone, destroyed and the stone robbed for the construction of other buildings. No trace is visible today, though the position is marked on several historic maps.
Join the Whiteadder project as we look for evidence of the remains of the castle of Morham!
Excavations will take place from Tuesday the 27th of August until Saturday the 31st of August. Onsite hours will be from 9am til 4pm. Whether you are a well-seasoned digger or this is your first time wielding a trowel, the excavations are open to all. There is no cost for participating in the excavations, and training will be given in excavation and recording techniques aligned with the BAJR Archaeology Skills Passport (which is also provided).
For more information, or to sign up to volunteer, please visit http://whiteadder.aocarchaeology.com/morham-a-lost-castle-in-east-lothian/ or phone Jessica on 0131 440 3593.”
Due to the awful weather we have decided to downsize the Fun Day on Saturday. Sadly we’ll not be having the bouncy castle, inflatable slide or bungee run – or pizzas. However, we will run some races either in the hall or outside if the weather improves. Races will begin at 3pm and we hope to still have a (very wet) boat race to finish. So please join us if you can and let’s have some fun in spite of the poor weather.
