Yoga in Garvald Village Hall

After a longer than normal break Chair Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga classes restart in the Garvald Village Hall on 2nd October, running through to mid-December.

Chair class has moved from Tuesday to Thursday and is now a 9.30 am start.  Places are limited, to maintain a small group and informal atmosphere, and already nearly full, so book now to secure your spot!

Vinyasa class continues at 6.30pm on Thursdays for one hour. The Autumn equinox is nearly upon us (Monday 22nd September), so why not give yourself something to do on these darker nights?  Build strength and flexibility and perhaps find your own equilibrium! To ensure classes run, advance booking at least 24 hours before is required.

If you have never tried yoga, have done a little, or want to build on existing knowledge and experience, you are welcome to come along.

More information can be found on the website: www.yoga-dragon.co.uk – where classes can also be booked.  Block booking discounts are available based on booking 12 or 8 classes.

Harvest Coffee Morning on 27th September

Time to get those apples picked!

The Harvest coffee morning will take place in Garvald Village Hall on Saturday 27th September from 10 until 12 noon to raise some funds for the Hall.

We’d love donations of jams, chutneys and anything baked for the Bring and Buy stall ( or extra baking for the tea stall)  Please label your baking with allergens if at all possible. If you have a few pre-loved books lying around that you think might be popular – please bring them along too.

Excitingly you will have the opportunity to press your own apples (or someone else’s) into apple juice. So bring a bottle and some muscle power.

Most importantly please bring CASH – all in aid of Hall funds.

And finally we could really do with another couple of volunteer helpers on the day, so if you’d like to be that superstar just contact Caroline McGregor or use the form below

The Village Hall needs your help strimming and clearing!

      Hello Garvald!

The rear of the village hall has become very overgrown again. This makes it difficult to maintain the hall and, as we will soon be starting work to renovate the hall windows, we need to clear the area so the workmen can gain access easily.
Volunteers are needed on Sunday 5th October from 2pm. We’ll be clearing the weeds and need some helping hands.
It’s a sizable task but with the power of the Garvald community many hands will make light work.
See you there with your strimmers, rakes, work wear, secateurs, pruning shears, hedge trimmers…!

There will be a fund-raising coffee morning in Garvald Village Hall on Saturday 27th September from 10 am until 12 noon.

Tea, coffee, cakes and PRESS-YOUR-OWN apple juice! Bring apples, a bottle and any jam or chutneys for the Bring and Buy table.

Friends of Garvald Village Hall Scheme

      Dear Garvald Resident,

As I am sure you are aware, Garvald residents are incredibly lucky to have a spectacular Village Hall at the centre of our community. The hall is much loved by us all and regularly used by many.

Sadly over the last few years the financial situation of the hall has become more perilous: heating costs have escalated, wedding bookings have become fewer and maintenance issues have increased. Despite best efforts of the current and previous committees, running the hall with the level of bookings we currently have is not financially viable over the longer term. As such we are working on a number of fund raising ideas to ensure the hall remains available to us all for many years to come.

Part of this current initiative is to ask each Garvald resident if they would like to become a long term ‘Friend of the Hall’ by setting up a monthly donation. The suggested amount is £5 per month; however, any amount would be greatly appreciated. There is absolutely no obligation to become a friend of the hall but it is hoped that many of the residents will be able to donate a little every month to allow the hall to have a regular income stream.

If you would like to join this initiative, please complete the contact form, below, to receive details of how to set up your payment.

Should anyone wish to discuss this further, please speak to either Gary McGregor (Chair) or Tom Edmonds (Treasurer). They can be contacted via the contact form, too.

      Many thanks,

      Garvald Village Hall Committee

Garvald Hogmanay Event – Request for Feedback

Many thanks to all those who came to support the 2024 Garvald Hogmanay Hoolie and very special thanks to all the ‘silent’ helpers who magically appear when needed to assist with serving, clearing tables and then especially tidying the hall the next day – you all know who you are and are all wonderful!

We have noticed that Ceilidh numbers have dwindled slightly the last couple of years and so have compiled a wee survey to just check and see what the general feeling is regarding the Ceilidh and Hogmanay – please see the following link, it should only take 5 mins to complete and will really help inform the way forward.

        https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GSLGV3Y

In addition, Shirley and Sarah who have been organising the Ceilidh for the last number of years, are keen to step aside now and let others take the lead so are keen to hear from anyone interested in getting involved.  Feedback gathered from the survey will hopefully help steer the event in the preferred direction going forward.

Please respond by 7th February so a band can be booked if required for the 2025 event.

        Thank you!
