Rural Broadband

A member of the GMCC wishes to gather information from residents about the issue of poor broadband reception in some parts of the Morham and Garvald area.

The roll-out of fibre broadband in our area of rural East Lothian has now become a very contentious subject with progress and information about it inconsistent and, at times, confusing.

If anyone is concerned about this, please use the contact form, below, to help give the GMCC a clear picture of residents’ thoughts and concerns:

    Church service

There will be a Communion Service in Garvald Church on Sunday 3rd September at 9.30 am to which everyone is welcome.

There will be a short meeting in the church after the service, for members and adherents to discuss the proposed sale of the church.

And then coffee and tea for everyone in the Stables

    Have you lost a ring?

This ring was found on the hill between Garvald village and Nunraw. If you think it may be yours, please complete the contact form, below, and we’ll reunite you with it:

      Lost Property and Tea Towels

POST-SHOW LOST PROPERTY – There were a few things left over after the Show – see photo. We’ll hang on to them for a couple of weeks and then they will be transferred down to Cancer Research shop in Haddington.

TEA TOWEL ANMESTY – the village hall kitchen is like the Bermuda Triangle when it comes to tea towels. Please please if you have any that you have taken home for washing, do return to the hall (or Elaine at Whitelaws or Jo at 1 Tanderlane Cotts). Thanks!

      SHOW SUCCESS – THANKYOU

Thanks everyone for a lovely afternoon yesterday and to all of you for participating in the Show.

The usual controversies and debates were had (don’t mention buttercream) – all carefully negotiated by the judges in the spirit of friendly competition. Some shifts and changes in hotly contested categories (tablet! beetroot!). Garvald dogs were joined by a sheep, tortoise and cat in the pet show. I was also very happy to win back for a second year some tinned peas I had put into the tombola.

It wouldn’t happen without the judges, stewards, tea helpers, washer-uppers, tombola masters, chair and table shifters, cakes and prize donators. I totted up and realised there are about 30 people directly involved in putting this event on! We especially appreciated the help with clear up.

Here are a few pictures and I’ll put more on the Show page of the website soon, along with results list. Also watch out for our photos in the Courier.

As ever, we are very grateful for donations of cake for the teas and items for the tombola. Please bring along to the hall on the morning of the Show.

Cupholders – please bring your cup to the hall on the morning of the show or pass to Malcolm (Whitelaws) or Jo (1 Tanderlane Cotts) this week.
