Weather Warning: Wednesday 19th September

Please be aware of an Amber Weather Warning from the Met Office, for wind affecting East Lothian between 8am and 5pm on Wed 19th September.

Please take care and ensure garden items are tied down or removed before the expected wind arrives.

Storm Ali is expected to bring a very windy spell of weather with gusts of 65-75 mph inland. What to expect:

  • Flying debris is likely and could lead to Injuries or danger to life
  • Probably some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs or damage through falling trees and branches breaking
  • Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected
  • Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Some roads and bridges likely to close
  • Large waves could affect coastal roads, sea fronts and properties

 

Climate Change Consultation

East Lothian Council is developing a strategy to help reduce carbon emissions and wants to hear your views on what the council and the wider community, including local groups and businesses, can do to help achieve this goal and prepare for the future effects of climate change.

Come along to a drop-in consultation event to find out more about what we are already doing, and what we can all do to reduce our carbon footprint.

Oral History Project

Some of you may have heard about the oral history project which is currently being undertaken by the Friends of Garvald Church, in conjunction with researchers from Edinburgh University (https://www.regionalethnologyscotland.llc.ed.ac.uk).

A training session has been arranged for anybody from Garvald who is interested in volunteering as an interviewer and collector of oral history.

The session will take place on Saturday 20th October at 10.30 am in The Stables and should last approximately 2 hours. The training is completely free.

    Church Tour

    Thank you to everybody who came to the church last Sunday afternoon for the archaeology talk. The talk was very well attended and really interesting.

    Pub Quiz Fundraiser

    PUB QUIZ AT THE GARVALD INN on Friday, 21st September.

    £5 per team. The fun starts at 9pm.

    Garvald’s Conal and Robin are travelling to Costa Rica and Tanzania with Operation Raleigh this autumn to volunteer with Raleigh International. They will be holding a pub quiz on Friday 21st September in the Garvald Inn to raise money for their expeditions.

    Heads up – there will be some themed questions!

    Missing cat

    Hello neighbours

    Can you keep an eye out (check sheds) for our cat ‘Bailey’ who has gone awol. Mainly black with a white chest and blue velvet collar. He is quite adventurous and very friendly. If found or seen please let us know! Thanks, Jo (1 Tanderlane Cotts)
