Woodlands Project 2: Meeting on Wed 16th April
Please drop in to register your comments, Wednesday 16th April (6.30-7.30pm) at the Village Hall.
At last December’s Community Council meeting a proposal was made to assess the need for a follow-up to the recent woodland management project. The aim would be to complete the work that was originally planned almost a decade ago by felling the remaining monoculture of conifer trees (on the Papana Burn South bank at the West end of the village) and replacing them with mixed deciduous trees. In addition, work would be carried out to remove twelve conifer trees next to the roadside beyond Papana bridge, to give space for the existing deciduous and Monkey Puzzle trees to thrive.
Do come along to find out more about the areas affected and provide your comments. All residents of Garvald are encouraged to give their opinion on this matter and the project will be initiated only if the majority of villagers support it.
If you can’t make it to the meeting please complete the feedback form, which will be posted on the website soon.
Free blackcurrant shrub
The Ingram veg plot is being tidied up and this has resulted in a spare mature blackcurrant bush. We have left it by the bench at the Village Hall so if you want it, go and claim it! First come, first served…
Wood Gathering Update
After five Saturdays of effort, we have now finished clearing up the wood off the bank opposite the park, as far as is possible. Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped us over the five weekends. It was hard work but good fun by all accounts!! Scottish Woodlands have indicated that they hope to start the replanting on the bank this week, which is excellent news.
There is now a large quantity of cut wood and logs available to be taken away by any local resident, at no cost. Please help yourself!
We are planning to organise some deliveries of the wood, so if you are unable to collect logs yourself but would like some, please complete the form below.
