Marathon Runners – justgiving link
A little note below from Laura Edmonds who will be running the Edinburgh Marathon, along with her husband Tom, on Sunday 28th May. Wishing you both the best of luck!!
Laura Edmonds is fundraising for St Columba’s Hospice Care (justgiving.com)
Just popping this here because a few villagers have asked me to share the link.
You might know I’m running my first marathon in less that 3 weeks, and raising money for St. Columba’s Hospice in Edinburgh. Everyone has been so unbelievably generous and it’s honestly kept me going when I’ve found getting out and running those long runs hard. Last little push! Already had so much support from fellow villagers, means a lot, so a huge thank you, Laura xx

Garvald Fun Day!
Our annual Garvald Fun Day is scheduled for 12th August 2023.
The event has, in the past, been organised by Penny Short very successfully. However, she is unable to carry on organising this event so, if the Fun Day is to continue, we need a new team to take this forward.
Penny has a detailed plan for the event which she will hand over to the new lead person.
The Fun day is supported by our Community Council, with funding available.
With all the young families in the village, it would be a shame for this to disappear. Without any takers this event will cease to take place.
If you would like to know more and are willing to take this on please use the contact form, below, in the first instance:
REMINDER: PUBlic Philosophy at the Garvald Inn – Thursday 27th April
The last PUBlic Philosophy event of the academic year will take place at the Garvald Inn on Thursday 27th April (8pm until 10pm).
This one will be a debate about God, morality, the corruption of the soul, and how to get your kids to eat vegetables. The central question is whether belief in divine reward and punishment helps people to act morally, or whether it is morally corrupting.
In the first corner, we have arguments from Bishops Berkeley and Butler. In the second corner, we have arguments from Anthony Ashley Cooper, the Third Earl of Shaftesbury. Michael Gill and Jen Marusic will be our esteemed guests this time. They are terrific philosophers, presenters, and people.
It is bound to be a great event. We hope that lots of you can come along!
