Thanks for donations

Massive thanks to everyone who donated goods for the Food Bank appeal. Everything in the photo here will be delivered to Tranent Food Bank.

Next Sunday there will be a Remembrance Service in Morham Church at 9.30 am.

Harvest Thanksgiving Service – Food Bank Donations

Thanks to everyone who has been so generous already with their donations for the Food Bank. There is still time to donate before Sunday, by leaving your donation in the plastic box which has been placed in the bus shelter next to the village green.

And just to reassure anyone who is worried about the wisdom of a gathering inside the Church – everyone wears masks and keeps a healthy distance from everyone else; We could double the numbers and still have loads of space. There is no singing, chanting or hugging! It will just be a calm, quiet and reflective Harvest Thanksgiving Service at 9.30 am in on Sunday 1st November.

Thanks in advance

Halloween in Garvald

The new guidance from the Scottish Government calls for no knocking on doors for Halloween this year but there will still be a Spooky Trail  through the woods for the kids to enjoy.

If you would like to contribute to the atmosphere and decorate your house, families can walk through the village and appreciate the spooky sights.  There will also be a “Best Pumpkin” accolade for the most creative jack o’ lantern.

For those who want to leave a wee treat for kids who come past, please leave bagged or wrapped treats near your gate or door in a way that kids can take one without lots of handling, e.g. hanging on a sweetie tree, clipped to a treat wreath, or set out on a table or large tray.

Harvest Thanksgiving – Food Bank Donations

There will be a Harvest Thanksgiving Service in Garvald Church on Sunday 1st November at 9.30 am. Everyone is welcome.

In order to mark the occasion we are planning to collect donations for the East Lothian Food Bank. You can bring your donation to the church next Sunday morning or you can leave it in the plastic box which has been placed in the bus shelter next to the village green. The box will be emptied every day.

Thanks in advance

Halloween 2020

Saturday 31st October

Sadly like most things this year the annual children’s Halloween party has to be cancelled due to covid!
So instead, to mark the occasion and have some fun we thought we would organise a spooky halloween trail through the woods in the park for the children of Garvald. Children must be accompanied by an adult and you must have a torch, these are private woods and you enter at your own risk, all current covid social distancing rules must be followed, please be respectful of others and of the woods and stay on the path.
The spooky trail will set up and able to walk round from when it gets dark and the ghouls come out.

We also thought is would be nice if the children want to decorate their windows or gardens in some way and you can take a stroll round the village and have a look at them all.
If you are happy for children to guise please make it obvious and have a pumpkin or some decoration to indicate you are happy with this and we ask everyone to be respectful and not knock on any doors that do not have any decoration.

We hope this will bring a bit of fun and excitement around Halloween for the kids in what has been and continues to be a strange year for everyone!

Church services

Garvald Church will re-open for Sunday worship this Sunday 4th October at 9.30 am. It will be a shorter service than usual and everyone will have to socially distance and wear a face mask.

Services will then continue on alternate Sundays in Garvald and Morham.

We would love to welcome everyone to the Church, especially anybody who has recently moved to Garvald.

A few of us have been going out for a Sunday morning run for several years now. Sometimes there have been as many as 5 people, occasionally only 1, but usually at least 2. Please join us.

We run a 5 km circle with a couple of hills and enough flat stretches to chat. Meet 9 am at the Park. It hardly ever rains!

See you this Sunday
