Stantec has been appointed as consultants by East Lothian Council to advise on and conduct Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) consultation for Haddington.
East Lothian Council is proposing to change the parking restrictions in Haddington. At this stage of the process, we are seeking views and suggestions for how to improve the parking in and around Haddington. No order has been drafted yet. This phase of consultation will feed into a decision whether a TRO is necessary and what form that TRO will take.
This first phase of public consultation will be open from 19th May, closing on 30th June.
To view the consultation materials and the areas under consideration, please go to https://tinyurl.com/EastLothianParking
We have included the following information on the website:
We will also be hosting two events in Haddington during the consultation period where you can view hard copies of these materials and have an opportunity to discuss the parking restrictions within the town with officers from the Council and Stantec.
These events will take place at the following location and times:
Following these events, the hard copies of these materials will be available at any East Lothian library.
If you have any questions relating to this phase of consultation, please email Haddingtonparking@eastlothian.gov.uk. We will aim to respond to your query within five working days from receipt of the email.
An enticing array of events is about to take place in Garvald ( and Gifford) ……
on 24th May at 10 am a few volunteers are needed to help clear the Stables garden which has become extremely overgrown. Cake will be available for all helpers. The garden will then be a delightful venue for Ladies Suppers and for more tea and cake on 8th June – see below. If you can, please bring some secateurs or loppers.
on 31st May at 11 am the inaugural coffee safari will take place. Everyone who fancies a catch-up and a chat, is invited to make their way up to Carfrae Farm on foot, by bike, by car and have a cup of coffee ( paid for by the Community Council) and any cakes that take your fancy up there. The cannoli are extremely good.
on 7th June at 2pm the annual Lammermuir Parish Garden Party will be held in the Manse garden, Tweedale Ave., Gifford. Everyone is invited and there are a whole lot of fantastic activities as well as – you guessed it – cake!
on 8th June at 3pm in Garvald Church, there will be a special Thanksgiving event to recognise the generosity of Linda Leith who bough the church from Church of Scotland. Restoration of the roof is due to start later in June and hopefully there will be many future celebrations there. On 8th June there will be bit of history, a bit of singing, a blessing, a special appearance by OFF-GRID ( who were sensational in the pub last week) and afterwards in the Stables Garden MORE CAKE.
Small update: we had planned to have two researchers who discovered that whale song has language-like statistical structure this Thursday at the Garvald Inn. However, one of them is unable to make it.
In her place, alongside Simon Kirby, we will have Carrie Figdor, a visiting professor at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Edinburgh who is here to work on evolution and language use in non-human animals.
This Thursday, 8 – 10pm at the Garvald Inn. Hope to see you there.
Friday 9th May is Film Club Night, and this month the film is “The Room Next Door”. This is the first English language film by Pedro Almodovar, with Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore as the main characters – sounds tasty?. Curry available at The Lanterne Rouge beforehand.
Now that we are starting to get that summer feeling, what better way to get in the groove than with some laid-back jazz in the Village Hall. A great way to raise some funds for the hall.
Saturday 31st May at 8 pm BYOB and snacks
Tickets from Laura Edmonds, or via the contact form below or from the Lanterne Rouge
We have a special PUBlic Philosophy event scheduled for Thursday 8 May, 8-10pm at the Garvald Inn.
Inbal Arnon (Professor of Psychology from Hebrew University) and Simon Kirby (Professor of Linguistics and English Language from the University of Edinburgh) will lead a discussion about the similarities between whale language and human languages. You have probably heard about their work in the news recently; the published research is here.
All welcome as always!
UPDATE: please bring some snacks / nibbles / light bites on Friday night as well as your preferred drink. This is instead of a meal-based event which we usually have. This keeps things simple and takes the pressure off planning a little!
See you there!
